Perfect Blue and Pop Star Academy

Recently Film Crit Hulk did a deep dive into the work of Satoshi Kon.
If you're not aware of Satoshi Kon, he was an anime auteur – he made four films and one mini-series, all widely regarded as masterpieces. Among certain nerdy circles he is known as the man Darren Aronofsky ripped off when he made Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan, and Christopher Nolan ripped off when he made Inception.
One of the many things Hulk talks about is a perceived disconnect between Kon's empathetic depiction of the brutalities inflicted on women by patriarchal systems and the frequency with which women are revealed to be behind whatever awful shit has been going on in that particular film.
This is particularly clear in Perfect Blue, my personal favourite of Kon's films.
